Well here’s a new one. The RKC are asking Crufts exhibitors to voluntarily declare if they have had any animal cruelty convictions. What happens if you say yes? Do they refuse to take your entry? Or do they clutch their pearls, tut a bit……and take your money?

At Gundog Society Of Wales Erica Jayes and Ed Casey’s Sh Ch Berlan Get Up And Go At Sandylands certainly flew the flag for Labradors by going Best In Show!!! Excellent result and many congratulations.

Nigel Worth was judging dogs, and Liz Hallgarth was in charge in the bitch ring.

The RDCC went to Lynda Miles’s Llanstinan Roman Reigns. BCC, her all-important third, was Mac Percival’s (Sh Ch) Wynfaul New Years Eve. RBCC went to Yo Shirton’s Woolman Carefree. BP was Emily Evans’s import, Loretta Night Fury Over Eminala. BV went to Gail Dodd’s Sh Ch Carriegame Moonshine, and BSB was Edwards Simply The Best Meri-Stuart At Bearstone.

It was nice to see Hayley Jo Brambles with her husband in tow at Northumberland & Durham recently. Hayley and her husband were celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. What better treat could Hayley POSSIBLY have devised for him but to bring him to a dog show 😂 40 years!!! Hayley must have been a child bride.

A reminder that it’s the time of year to seriously think about your yearbook entries. Midland Counties Labrador Club have a special price for their 80th Anniversary Edition. 1 page £30, 2 pages £55, 3 pages £70. Trade advertisement £70. As usual, computer expert Matt Bordacs will be available to guide you through the process, and turn your photos into something really special. You can email at mclrc.pr@gmail.com for further details, or contact Matt or Bria Bordacs.

I don’t yet have any details for the Labrador Club yearbook. I’ll post as soon as I have them.

The Lab Club of Scotland has produced a fabulous calendar that looks to be a must-have for all Labrador owners. It costs £8.50 +£2.20 p&p. Copies will be available at WELRC show, Gundog Breeds of Scotland,  and I’m sure they will also be available at LKA. A fantastic and very welcome Christmas stocking filler. Put your order in without delay.

At the recent Lab Club Of Scotland Open Show, Natalie Baron was the judge. BIS & BD was Di Tulloch’s Sh Ch Binnaig Bonnach Of Tullochmohr. RBIS, BOS & BB was Alison Gunn’s Exelby Elizabeth At Weachyburn. RBD was Meissner’s Weathertop War Dance. RBB went to Carol Grant’s Ellukine Sweet Moments. BPD & BPIS was Cheryl Wilson’s Crammondkirk Final Word, and BPB was Nadine Ireland’s Kuldoo She’s The One.

Becci Hodge had a super weekend over in Ireland, where her 2am, very rough crossing was made worth the trip when Envy took the Green Star & BOB under Karin Brostam-Berglund, and then went Gr4 under Jo Glynn at Irish Gundog, and then at the Retriever Speciality Show went Best In Show and Best Veteran In Show under Beppe Masai. Gaining his Irish Vet Ch Title means he can now proudly call himself GB Sh Ch, Ir Sh Ch, Lux Ch, Int Ch, Naiken Elite Envoy JW Ir J Ch, Ir Vet Ch. All credit to Becci and Jackie for keeping  Envy and his brother, East,  in such wonderful condition that they can continue to compete at the highest level as veterans.

I will write a full report on Midland Counties next week, but it was lovely to see Mary McCulloch at the show. We had a lovely chat, and her Frewlings kennel had a very good day, both as exhibits, and as the breeding behind many of the winners and placed dogs.

Excellent news that the RKC has reversed its decision to have three judges for our breed. Also, I have for several years now been campaigning for an earlier removal time. It seems that the RKC is list
