A busy weekend with two Breed club shows. At North West Lab Club, Sian Ellis was the dog judge, and making it a family affair, daughter Einir Matulla took on the bitches. DCC, BOB & BIS, adding to his considerable tally, was Erica Jayes and Ed Casey’s Sh Ch Berlan Get Up And Go At Sandylands. BCC, BOS & RBIS was Kirsty & Lisa Gordon-Smith and Annette Bibby’s Meadowline Whiz Bang At Bruxinho. I saw Kirsty the next day At  Northumberland and Durham, and to say she was thrilled with her very first CC was an understatement. She really is one of the nicest people you would ever meet, and I’m sure EVERYONE was as delighted for her as I was. RDCC was Pam Druggan’s A Sense Of Pleasures Hey Jude For Balladoole. Pam also took BPD & RBPIS with Balladoole Captain Taboo. RBCC went to the Rawlinson & Balshaw family’s Sh Ch Halshimoor Perfect Pitch At Shanorell. BPB & BPIS, rounding off a successful day for Erica and Ed, was Lapema Crystal Lake At Sandylands. BVIS was Di Tulloch with Tullochmohr Ace Of Hearts. BBPIS went to Mac Percival’s Wynfaul Flamenco, and RBBPIS was Kirsty Jones with Serengochs Terranova.

The following day was the turn of Margaret Litherland to cast her expert eye over both sexes at Northumberland and Durham. BIS & BCC, her second, went to a truly delighted Yo Shirton with Woolman Carefree. We all enjoyed Yo’s little dance. DCC, BOS & RBIS, also winning his second CC, was Linda Miles’s Llanstinan Roman Reigns. RBCC was Maxine Woodley’s Sh Ch Alkhamhurst London Girl,  RDCC went to Karen Powell’s Seatallan Chilli. Karen also went BVIS with Ch Seatallan Yellow Archangel. BPD and BPIS was Louise Lewis with Crammondkirk Final Word. BPB & RBPIS was Mac Percival with Wynfaul Tango. BVD was Gail Dodd’s Sh Ch Carriegame Moonshine. BPB was another win for Kirsty Jones with Serengoch Terranova.

News from Matt Bordacs. Matt writes:- The Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club has launched its new online Labrador Database, which is currently undergoing a BETA test, and is continually being expanded. The database brings together Labrador pedigrees, parentage, ancestors, health information, titles, stud book numbers, kennel/affix information and show results, with more information being added and linked all the time.

Users can search for individual dogs or kennels, view extended pedigrees, follow sire & dam lines, see available health information, and use the Trial Mating feature to combine two dogs, view proposed pedigrees, and calculate COI. There are also options to save favourite dogs, create shareable trial-mating links, and produce printer/PDF-friendly pedigrees.

The database also includes a 2026 competition, using Championship Show results to produce rankings and leaderboards for dogs and kennels throughout the year.

From 2027, this will develop into a full MCLRC points competition, with dogs collecting points from eligible show results throughout the season. Leaderboards will be updated as results are added, with prizes awarded by the MCLRC across the different categories at the end of the year.

As the database is still in BETA, you are all encouraged to have a look, try the different features, and let Matt know if you spot any missing or incorrect information. Every correction helps to improve and grow the database.

I think this will prove to be a very valuable tool for breeders and exhibitors. It may take us oldies a little while to get the hang of it, but if any of us have access to a small child, they’ll soon show us how to operate it.

Code to get in is MCLRC2026
